A Better Government

The Current Mess

I’m writing this in October.  I have no idea what will happen in the United States in November.  We are facing what is being called the most important Presidential election in our history.  Many people say that we have gone from simple politics to a battle between good and evil.

The United States has gone through a massive shift in the past few decades.  Lawlessness, immorality, and indecency are promoted and celebrated. Our schools and universities teach confusion and chaos.  We no longer have the option of choosing between good candidates, and instead are forced to vote for the lesser of two evils.  We no longer value life and property.  Entertainment is rarely anything less than filth, and it teaches our children violence and gross sexuality.  It seems that in our country, and around the world, there is nothing good left.  Everything is polluted and dark.

It is very unlikely that the outcome of the upcoming election will do much of anything to improve this situation.  Maybe we will pay fewer taxes, but will morality be restored?  Will the name of Jesus be glorified from the Capitol building as it used to be?  Probably not.

There seems to be nothing good to encourage me and nothing good to look forward to.  I’m sure you can relate.  I’m sure you’ve felt weary at watching the world deteriorate around you.  Where is the hope?

The Future Government

I’m here to remind you, dear reader, that we have the promise of a future government ruled by the Perfect King and a select group of good leaders.  Isaiah shares with us a vision of this noble government and its King.

”For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder.  And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever.  The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”  Isaiah 9:6-7 NKJV

Another beautiful picture from Isaiah comes from chapter 2:

“Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it.  Many people shall come and say, ‘Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.’  For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.  He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.”  Isaiah 2:2-4 NKJV

In the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus, goodness and righteousness will be promoted and celebrated, truth and love will be taught around the world, and righteous men and women chosen and trained by Jesus will rule from beautiful, peaceful cities. Life will be cherished and protected.  Art, music, and entertainment will be pure and lovely, and will glorify our Creator.  Darkness will be pushed away, and the light of everlasting life will shine brightly for eternity.  There will be no evil takeover.  There will be no war.  No cheating or injustice. And the Righteous King will rule forever.

Watch and wait with great anticipation, dear reader!  Be faithful to your King and He will allow you to rule with Him.  What a promise!  What a reward!

“Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things”  2 Peter 1:10-12a NKJV

  1. Thanks, Megan, for this article. I totally agree with your premise. But the promises that you cite for the One who we place our hope in is what helps us wake up every morning in a spirit of trust for our future, both here on earth and in the glorious Kingdom to come! Yes, hope!
