Five years after believing in Christ for eternal life, I hopped on a plane to serve as a missionary in Pakistan. I was a novice sailor learning to navigate life in a typhoon of immaturity, spiritual warfare, and the challenges of marriage and motherhood. I thrashed about in the Bible, searching for help, equilibrium, and victory. Colleagues, friends, and Christian books differed wildly about theology, adding to my confusion and desperation.
God heard my cries for help and sent me wonderful Bible teachers. Pondering Romans 7:1-6 one day, I sat up, looked around me, and said, “This is a whole new way of living. It’s not the old way of legalistic striving. Can it really be true?”
My dear sisters in Christ, it is true. Jesus said, “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1 NASB) In a series of 8 blogs entitled “THE EIGHT FREEDOMS: Just How Free Are We in Christ?” I will explore 8 key freedoms we have in Christ, using the Word of God, true stories from my life, and fictional stories. These blogs will make excellent daily devotional material and/or small group Bible study material.
